Meet Katie “CoralStar” Carpenter!
Hiya! My name is Kathrynn Carpenter, but most people know me as CoralStar online. I live in Dallas, TX with my husband and two furbabies, Chippy and Hazel. I work as an Aquarium Guide and Mobile Game App Developer for the Children’s Aquarium of Dallas as well as a 3D Artist In Residence for Gallium Studios in California.
I’ve worked at the Children’s Aquarium since September 2021. I’m the creator and developer of the Aquarium Scavenger Hunt app. Guests come in and download the app to their phone or tablet. While exploring the Aquarium they’ll discover QR Codes hidden throughout the building. When scanned, an animal will appear in the digital environment on their device and give them more fun facts about the animals they’re seeing at the Aquarium. And while I’m not always busy on the app, I have a blast getting to interact with the guests at the Aquarium! I work a lot on field trips, teaching kids about exotic animals as well as bringing out snakes and lizards for the kids to see up close.
I started at Gallium Studios in November 2022 as one of the 3D Artists in Residence through their community on Discord. Gallium Studios was founded by the famous video game designers Will Wright (“The Sims” and “Spore”) and Lauren Elliott (Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?). Every month, I upload 5 requested objects that can be used in “memory bubbles” for the Proxi Project.
